Promises

by Little Earthquakes

/
  • Record/Vinyl + Digital Album

During lockdown, Little Earthquakes gathered in a converted chicken coop on a rural Wisconsin farm to write and record their debut album, Promises. It was a perfect bubble for the band to explore without pressure or restriction. The result shifts easily between danceable grooves, unshakable hooks, quiet interludes, and raucous side trips, while Annie’s lyrics explore a young woman’s journey to find, and assert herself among life’s heartbreaks, wrong turns, and missed connections.

Oh My heart was bursting with desire Fertile ground For growing misery And your words were breezy Like a towel On a line in the wind on a sunny day Always want someone who’s a vision Just smoke Destroyed by fresh air and rain Show me a truth that I can accept So the most gentle thing That I can do for me Is to hide in these shadows ‘til I can finally see And the most noble thing That I can do for you Is to hide in these shadows ‘til I’m not longer blue But I combat this repetition I combat this repetition Oh My heart was bursting with desire Fertile ground for Growing misery And your words were breezy Like a towel On a line in the wind on a sunny day Show me a truth that I can accept So the most gentle thing That I can do for me Is to hide in these shadows ‘til I can finally see And the most noble thing That I can do for you Is to hide in these shadows ‘til I’m not longer blue But I combat this repetition I combat this repetition I combat I combat I come back

She was like a storm She was like the weather Waves crash against the rocky shore of her ribcage now Ooooooh She was like a storm She was like the weather Waves crash against the rocky shore of her rib cage Loud Loud And she cries She got so little in return She was like a song That river of melody coming slow The world always held a bowwww Arrows ripping through her bones And nobody ever saw it They never really saw it Her roar And she cries She got so little in return For all that gold All that was good In her eyes She got so high To come crashing down (down… To the ground) On broken glass On broken glass All that Was good In her eyes She got So high
